MONTCLAIR COUNCIL APPROVES RESOLUTION TO GIVE SKATE PARK PERMANENT HOME

MONTCLAIR RESOLUTION FOR PERMANENT SKATE PARK IS A GAME CHANGER FOR THE COMMUNITY

Skate Essex, Montclair High School Skate Club and Thousands of Skaters Across the Community Rejoice!

Today is the next big step as Montclair Township put forth a Resolution with the town Council to make Rand Park the site for a world class permanent skate park for the community. With the help of numerous skaters, families, advocates and government officials, as well as an Olympic skater, Montclair is putting a stake in the ground to put in a much-requested permanent home for the Olympic sport of skateboarding right in our town.

“We could not be more thrilled that Montclair has heard the multi-year rallying cry of skaters young and old to build a safe home for skateboarders at Rand Park,” says Jamie Siwinski, Montclair High School Skate Club Advisor and English Teacher. “It’s going to be amazing to have a permanent space with concrete bowls, ramps, and ledges that skaters of all abilities will be able to enjoy!”

“With this Resolution, Skate Essex and our supporters can move into high gear to fundraise and access grants to co-fund this park,” says Paul King, Skate Essex Board Member. “We truly appreciate Mayor Spiller and Councilors Schlager, Yacobellis and Russo for their guidance and support, as well as the support of their fellow Councilors for this Resolution.”

The vote was unanimous and shows the full support of the town to make this happen.

May 1st: Push for the park!

“By organizing a safe and fun place for aspiring skateboarders, we can avoid being labelled as criminals or delinquents for the sole reason of having nowhere to practice our sport.”

Join Montclair’s Skate Community this Saturday, May 1st in their rally for a finished skatepark at Rand Courts. The park is in need of amenities such as lights, additional space to compensate for the volume of skaters and public restrooms for participants to use. Skaters are encouraged to meet at Watchung Plaza at 11am, to then ride from Watchung Plaza to Rand Courts in an effort raise support and awareness for the completed park. Contests, Giveaways, Live Music and more will be happening this Saturday at Rand. You will not want to miss out on this!
